If you are currently an entrepreneur or have visions of being one, then this information is for you.
25 years ago I was a broke, alcoholic bartender that graduated high school with a whopping 1.5 GPA. I thought that my life was destined to be a slave to whatever job I could get. Bartending was easy money without a whole lot of structure and since I was good enough, I could get a job at pretty much any club I wanted. The problem was that I was SO unsatisfied that I had developed a drinking problem to numb the pain of the mundane.
So here’s the good news…one ordinary day a friend of mine asked me a question, “How’d you like to make some more money?”. Wow! How profound. I said sure. He said “Call me monday and I’ll take you to a meeting”. And like thousands of people around the world I went to my first “opportunity” meeting and was blown away.
The difference is, that I actually had HOPE for the first time as a way out of my other “world” and was open to learning a new profession to try and recapture my life.
Guess what? …..I DID IT !
Not only was I able to change professions but was able to excel to a level I could have only dreamed about just a few years earlier. I began to make more money monthly than I had been making annually, got married, started going to church, had some kids and even quit partying. (God gets the credit for that one, not my business).
Now here’s my point. I wanted you to understand that “If I can do it, so can you” and I have a couple of VERY important things to share with you, so here goes…
When you become an entrepreneur, you have to change almost every aspect of your life. Since most of you reading this come out of a “job” mentality that you have been conditioned for over years, you will see that entrepreneurs think & do things MORE EFFICIENTLY than the masses. And most importantly, with LESS time.
The key to success is this, “Be PRODUCTIVE instead of just ACTIVE”. In my profession, I get paid for RESULTS, not time. HUGE difference. With a job, most people get paid on time and could probably get done in a couple hours what they drag out through the day just so they look active to keep their paycheck.
So here are the important two questions that could save your life, not to mention your sanity.
Number 1- “Am I being productive or just active?”
Number 2- “Am I inventing things to do to avoid the important?”
Constantly throughout the day, ask yourself these questions.
It will save you time and will actually free up time to do the things you want in life (which is why you are an entrepreneur in the first place).
As an example, in my profession of Networking, I get paid only when someone buys my product. Pretty simple. The secret to my success is that I have narrowed down what activities produce RESULTS and what activities waste time. An activity that produces results is directly talking to prospects. So this is where I focus the bulk of my time. An activity that may SEEM beneficial is something like organizing my lists of people I should talk too or maybe setting up systems or whatever.
This is a VALUABLE set of questions that will free up your life, not make it more confusing.
One thing you may want to do, regardless of what your job or business is, is to ask yourself these two questions then once you get the answers, create a plan to make the things that count more efficient. This will bring more satisfaction to your day and ultimately to your bank account.
Using these two questions will help in all areas of life if applied.
Hope this helps,
Mike Healy
