AHH…momentum! That all elusive dream of every networker on the planet.
What is it and how does it happen?
I believe that momentum happens when the size of your group hits the ‘tipping point’ of growth so much so that the appearance of the small activities is compounded to the point that the activities appear massive in nature.
I know that sentence may take a bit to grab hold of and understand but it’s true.
I’ve heard it said and I’ve repeated it many times myself in trainings that the secret to success in network marketing is getting a large group of people to do a few easy tasks over a sustained period of time.
So back to my momentum and tipping point…point.
For years I’ve always explained network marketing compensation plans by using what I call the power of one. What I do is draw out 12 months. I put months 1-6 on the left hand side and months 7-12 on the right hand side. Then I say “what if everyone just got one person a month”…I then say in month one lets just start with you…then in month 2 you get one, so now there are 2 of you. Then in month 3 you each got one…know there are 4 of you…and so on.
If you work the numbers like that, you will notice that after 6 months you don’t have that big of a group at all about 30 or so people…but 6 months later, due to compounding, you have at the 12th month over 2,000.
The important thing to focus on is that NO ONE was really doing anything different…it just consistently grew over a period of time until the sheer numbers…say around 100…took over to the point that it appeared to be a momentum shift.
